The mattress is a lost formwork made of high resistance woven geotextiles, UV protected and with high resistance to freeze-thaw cycles. The mattress is made of long life materials (20-25years): PET and PP, HDPE and PP, HDPE and PP-PES. The two sides of the mattress are reinforced by weaving together in filter points. The height after filling with concrete is up to 10-15-20cm depending on the density and size.

There are two categories of mattresses:

1. continuous mattress – filled with identical sized concrete slabs;
2. grassy mat – made by alternating the concrete slabs with cut filter points for ground vegetation.

The mattresses are assembled along the slope, in strips of different widths, stitched together.
The filling with concrete is made starting from base, to the top of the slope.

The concrete filled mattresses are used in reinforcement works, stabilization and erosion protection of river banks of the river bed, waterways and irrigation canals, dams for flood or coastal protection and other hydraulic constructions.
